I’ve been collecting frames/mirrors and wall art for a LONG time – including lots of vintage from old school haunts such as Afflecks palace in Manchester (where I once took a mirror off the wall in the cafe and bought it)!

Over the past year as gallery wall prints have grown in popularity so we decided to do a full feature wall (including lots of our own designs of course!).

Here is how we planned it!

So the house we were living in at the time was super modern and our decor was a mix of modern and maximalist.

We decided to do our gallery wall in the kitchen so we would have a focal point and also have something really fun to look at.

We started by painting the entire wall in Farrow and Ball pitch black – a blank canvas!

We then decided which pieces we absolutely HAD to have on there.

Such as our Oliver Bonas giant star and two pieces of art by local paint whisperer Mars Black.

We then reviewed the frames we had collected over the years and planned which prints and pictures we wanted to display.

This wasn’t super regimented and placement just came naturally through trying different things.

Because the house had a modern vibe we added in coloured frames in pink and green to really make the prints pop and also some neon lighting.

Fast forward a few months and we have moved to a Victorian period property still in beautiful Macclesfield but an entirely different vibe!

We found we couldn’t just pop the same gallery wall up in this house without some more thought and planning.

So….we decided to split our gallery wall into two – we have a black and green theme in our front lounge.

Beautiful black fireplace, moody boho vibes.

I thought this would lend itself so well to gold baroque style frames, to compliment our gold mirrors, with a few red and black frames mixed in.

The prints and pictures are a mix of other small business artwork, local art and a few of our own pieces.

I also have a birthday card which I couldn’t resist framing and adding in.

The finished look compliments the room so well!

We will be planning a second gallery wall in our second living space which is a super relaxed family vibe – lots of colour and fun.

We will add back in the neon lighting and lots of other interesting pieces!

Watch this space for gallery wall part 2!
